Description:

Desert

Made by Paulxfce

This is the first theme in which I tried not to use white and grey, but a muted yellowish-dark-brown color palet.
Designed to be light, crisp, and simple, this theme is thoroughly built and tested to provide a nice desktop environment.

The theme only provides a GTK3-theme, with dark-support, and a matching gnome-shell. It is built for the Gnome-DE.

Updates
1.3-B Added one theme with support for XFCE 4.16 , with basic GTK2 support (see last screenshots)
1.3 Major refinements and polishing to make it perfect. Introduction of new colors.
1.2 update to correct padding in nautilus pathbar
1.1 update gives two new accent-colors (orange and purple), matching gnome-shells and a solid (non-transparent) version of each variant. So now there are 12 themes to choose from.

Important:

This theme is developed for the gnome DE. It works on GTK3.22 to GTK3.29, and GTK3.32/34/36/38, NOT GTK 3.30.
There is no support for other DE's and Gtk-2.0. There is, however one theme with XFCE(4.16)-support (and GTK2) available

How to install:

Download the theme of your choice

> Desert-Teal-Blue
> Desert-Teal-Blue-Dark

> Desert-Green
> Desert-Green-Dark

> Desert-Orange
> Desert-Orange-Dark

> Desert-Red
> Desert-Red-Dark

> Desert-Purple
> Desert-Purple-Dark

> Desert-Brown
> Desert-Brown-Dark

> Desert-Yellow
> Desert-Yellow-Dark

> Desert-Blue
> Desert-blue-dark

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory.
Then use the Tweak Tool and select the theme.

I'm currently using Jade-Amber (with Desert-Orange-1.1). Best I've found so far, but I'm still looking around...
Paulxfce, I can understand why you don't want to make icon themes, but perhaps you could _recommend_ one? Or two... ;-)

I did make an iconset once, based on suru. The problem with icon-themes is that is requires a lot of work and updates, not to mention issues with every gnome-version-update. So, I sort of given up on that...

That's what I meant. Apps needs constant updates and it's just impossible to keep up..

Moka is cool with the purple variant.

Yes, the folder icons and mime types suit Desert. But not the apps.

Report

.. Moka is a nice theme but I'd rather go with Papirus. It's a very coherent theme with color palette matching Desert quite good. Folder icons and mime-types look fabulous with Deseert. Also this theme is in active development and one of the most complete (yet still coherent) out there. Still the apps icons are usually a bit too colorful though but there will be always problem with apps icons with every icon theme

I agree to some point because I love Papirus too, but find it too flat for Desert.

That's a good point. I can't wait to try Buuf Nestort: https://www.pling.com/p/1012233/ !

.. yes, Buuf Nestort seems an interesting and non-flat choice of icons for Desert. If you want to try, best grab it from the source repo: https://git.disroot.org/eudaimon/buuf-nestort

8 color is great.

but the lists look cringe when font size scaled to 1.25.
and I wish the color of the shell theme matches the GTK3 theme.

thanks for the great theme

Scaling is not advisable with this theme. It should however work properly with 200% scaling.

I'm using your cameo-pop_os theme as well. That one doesn't have a cringe lists problem.

Cameo is build on an entirely different code, with gradual scaling in mind. But It has some issues with 4K resolutions.

To prevent that this theme works with more fixed distances between widgets, instead of relative distances (like Cameo)

This is one of the best GNOME themes out there. It really is. I would say this was made carefully and with great effort. In a computer display standard, this fits perfectly. Well done, PaulXFCE.

10 the best. Congratulations and thank you for this new version ! I've been waiting for an amber or champagne version for a long time. A suggetion concerning the dark version, I find that the lettering is too bright, "too white". I would have seen something similar to your "Alu-Night-straight" or "Cameo-ALU-Night" version, ie softer, less white, less contrasting lettering.

Great work I'm in WOW still ah aha...Thank you very much for your hard work PAULXFCE
