Description:

A GTK, xfwm4, openbox-3, GNOME-Shell, and Cinnamon- Dark Mode Theme - Based on the Official Color Palette Created by Ethan Schoonover.

At last, a Solarized desktop theme is available with general appeal. Introducing Solarized-Material. Solarized-Material adheres to both Material-Design standards as well as those put forth by the official Solarized Color Palette. The fruits of this combination are a real bonus for those who need the scheme because they have to use their computers for hours - but still wish it to look elegant during those long periods.

Solarized-Dark-Mode - as originally created by Ethan Schoonover - is the highly valued color scheme for code editors and terminal emulators. Material-Solerized GTK dark-mode-scheme strictly adheres to Ethan Schoonover's original color scheme, which has been published for many major applications, with some including the scheme pre-installed. Coders and GUI users, alike, know that - once you try Solarized-Dark-Mode - it is hard to go back to anything else.

In His Own Words:

"Solarized is a sixteen color palette (eight monotones, eight accent colors) designed for use with terminal and gui applications. It has several unique properties. I designed this colorscheme with both precise CIELAB lightness relationships and a refined set of hues based on fixed color wheel relationships. It has been tested extensively in real world use on color calibrated displays (as well as uncalibrated/intentionally miscalibrated displays) and in a variety of lighting conditions." https://ethanschoonover.com/solarized/

Every element of this well-embraced theme package was re-built from the ground up, via the 1.4 version, to address any issues which have arisen over the lifetime of the theme. Chiefly, the Budgie radio-button/check-box issues have been wholly resolved in the Material format. We are glad to hear Material-Solarized has been performing well on most systems. Thank, again, secuvim - "https://github.com/secuvim" - for providing the additional package supporting GNOME 3.32.2 and Budgie to bridge the upgrade.

***Material-Solarized-Suru and Material-Solarized-Suru++ Icons are also available for download here***

The Suru and Suru++ icons and folders have been carefully crafted to match the Material-Solarized desktop scheme, but they can surely compliment other desktop themes that sport matching color hues.

The Suru-grounded icon set was initially designed and developed by Sam Hewitt - under GPL3. The original Suru icon set and concept was created by Matthieu James - Canonical Design Team. Core developers are Andrea Bonanni (original author) and Gustavo Costa . Devices icons are inspired by La Capitaine created by Keefer Rourke - under GPL3/MIT. Emoji icons are derived from the Twenoji created by Twitter Team - under MIT. Some icons are based on Numix mimetypes icons created by the Numix Team - under GPL3. Devices and places icons and several apps icons are inspired by Papirus icons created by Alexey Varfolomeev - under GPL3. Numberless icons are from Gravit Designer, under GPL3/MIT.

Manual Installation Is Easy:

1) Extract the "tar.xz" file into your "~/.themes/" folder - to install for current user only - or into the "/usr/share/themes/" folder - for the theme to be applied globally. 2) Use the GNOME Tweak Tool or an equivalent app to enable it for your desktop.

If installing manually, make sure to install the dependency: "Murrine theme engine" if you do not already have it; and update your GTK+packages if you have not.

Logging out and then logging back in may be necessary on some operating systems to fully implement themes.

9 Great theme.
There is one bug with xfwm4 theme. Window border color is grey for active window, inactive is ok. Using Manjaro XFCE.

Thanks for trying the theme. The window border is supposed to be dark grayish, can you be more specific? Material doesn't, by default, necessarily differ between active and inactive borders. Anyway, I just tested GTK2 and GTK3 apps with the new build, on my machine, and it is performing as intended. Show me a screenshot, so I can tell for certain what we're talking about - I always wish to please the user. Talk to you then.

Thanks for reply. Here is screenshot https://imgur.com/ZAKCTPJ.png.
Looking at your screenshot with nemo file manger i get the feeling that window border should be same color as titlebar.

rik (rjungman) and others are also actively involved with this theme, and he is likewise correct, regarding the consistency of the active and inactive borders for this design. You're right though, the borders do look a little better on GNOME versus XFCE, via your shot. Let me tear up the code a bit, and see what I can do to specifically make XFCE match that nice rendering on that we see vis-a-vis the Nautilus screenshot. It will be late next week, before an another update, but I'll let you know the verdict sooner.

10 Nice! I have been using a totally Solarized-themed system for a while now, and find it hard to use anything else long-term now. If I had to pick a favorite implementation it would probably be Solarized-Dark-Cyan. Very easy on the eyes. Always look forward to updates for them all though. Many thanks!

You bet! If you feel like messing with some Arc in a day or two, I am fixing to release something quite unique in that series. Till then, thanks for checking in.

9 Excellent theme. There seems to be an issue with the check boxes, though. I am working on Ubuntu Budgie, but have verified also on the Gnome DE. The check boxes, like in Nautilus, when you want to select "Hidden Files", or in the top panel, when you select "Show Battery Percentage", all all invisible. The are no check marks or boxes for the selected or unselected styles. The rest of the theme is great.

Yes, I wish Material standards did not force certain elements to theme with the same hex as another one you need to be a particular color. Depending on the graphics hardware, and the monitor settings, these plugins and context menu issues present as an inactive but visible element. All of our themes and apps are works in progress, and I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I will, as always, be visiting these issues as time allows.
