McOS-Mint-Cinnamon-Edition

NEW:

Version 2.0 is a newly developed theme with much improvements, such as a new metacity-theme, comboboxes with blue side-arrow-accent, a completely new dark-theme,...

This is a totally re-engineered version of McOS-MJV for the Cinnamon desktop.

Since it finally supports gtk 3.20+ (hello, we have been here for a few years already?) I thought I could give it a shot.

This has proven to be a much more difficult thing to do, because of the way Linux Mint uses Muffin as a window-manager, which has some drawbacks (like: Server-Side-Decoration, so no transparency in Nemo, ) and the 'multitude' of toolbars that take half the real-estate of the window... Reducing the size of them was my first priority.

Next building a metacity-theme that blends with the rest of the UI. I managed to create one that follows the theme. So with applications like X-viewer, X-player, DarkTable, Mpv-videoplayer, Cheese or Totem-mediaplayer you automatically get the dark theme with dark metacity titlebar. Or you can enable dark-mode on certain apps like the terminal.

Next, for certain apps (like the calculator or Lollypop-music player) CSD is used for drawing the titlebar (and buttons). So here too, there is support for dark-mode.

Nemo, the filemanager has been tweaked so it resembles (a bit) the MacOS-finder. In the screenshot Nemo's menubar is hidden.

How to:

Download and extract the file to your '.themes'-folder (make one if you have not done so already)

Open System Settings/Appearance/themes and choose the theme in the window-borders and Controls.

Issues:

Libre-Office is not so good in GTK2. If possible try the GTK3-version.

Note: there is no Cinnamon-theme provided.

Thank you very much for your effort.

Hi Paul, i note a little problem in Synaptic with the gray grade in the menu bar under the window border that is perfectly integrated instead. I had reported to you a similar aesthetic problem even in the past. Thank's for your job

Are there any plans for porting the Dark and Space Grey versions to Cinnamon?

And for Cinnamon? Which theme do you recommend? Will there ever be a dedicated version?

It is developed on Manjaro cinnamon. It should work on any cinnamon desktop.

I am using Qogir theme (https://www.opendesktop.org/p/1230631/) It's available in dark and light. But i use it only for the cinnamon-panel. For window-theme i choosed paulxfce's McOS-MJV-Cinnamon-Edition-2.0.

(forgot to mention the traffic lights as well. It's a nifty idea, but ever so glad that apple also had the good sense to provide a less jolty alternative within that graphite look, lol)

Any chance you could be persuaded to tweak this one for a "Graphite" style, like this?
https://ibb.co/gDMWYnR

Fully switching from macOS for over 10 years over to Linux involved having a good theming opportunity, silly as that sounds. Your theme here made it possible. But I miss the graphite as I've always found the blue to be over-stimulating to the eyes in extended use. Colourful icons is as much as I can enjoy, and even those I periodically switch out to greys.

I've tried mucking about in the files to change but I'm out of my league as nothing comes out right.
Another beautiful tweak from the mac world comes from another theming artist, which is quite cool; and which you might find good for future ideas as well: https://ibb.co/LNnWg9F (many elements like the buttons, and scrollbars are this light milky white colour, and otherwise also in the grey ranges.)

I share this long comment since I saw you created a Desaturin theme, so it seems like you too appreciate the value of a greying aesthetic. Sadly Desaturin seems marked only for purely Gnome. Please, please let me know if it's something you'll seriously consider. And if it's outside your range of interest/time, could you point me in a good direction for me to be able to properly play about with theme tweaking?

Well, A graphite version looks good, not so sure about the milky one. I will seriously consider this. But as this is a one-man-project, I have so many things in my TODO's. Currently I'm finalising Mc-OS-MJV-version 2-XFCE (the first of a new series), next is the gnome-version, then the cinnamon-version, and then I could work on your idea.
Adjusting the current theme-colors is not enough, as you might have noticed. It involves allot more tweaks..
