GN-OSX H.Sierra 1.2

Made by paulxfce

After building Gnome-OSX, now a brand new theme based on the latest Mac OS
This is a gnome-desktop-interpretation of Mac OSX High Sierra. So don't expect a replica.

Again, I've spend an obscene amount of time perfecting this theme, so please try it out before you rate it...

What is new?

In sort: everything.

The long version for the geeks:

- a totally rewritten GTK3.CSS
- removal of png's for SVG's (better at scaling)
- new buttons everywhere.
- Switch-button is now CSS-written, so no need for graphics.
- New and improved blurred sidebar in nautilus.
- Same theming across GTK2 and GTK3.

Requirements

First, This theme only works in the gnome-desktop, with GTK 3.20 -> 3.24

Second, essential in this theme is the use of the font: Freesans Regular, 11pt, Scaling factor 1,00. Why? Because buttons behave weird if you don't...

Next, buttons should be on the left side. Here is the terminal-code:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout "close,minimize,maximize:"
In case you would want to revert them back to the right:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ":minimize,maximize,close"

When, as such, theming does not look the way it should be: make sure you have installed the necessary theme-"engines":

- The gnome-themes-standard package,
- The murrine engine. This has different names depending on your distro.
gtk-engine-murrine (Arch Linux)
gtk2-engines-murrine (Debian, Ubuntu, elementary OS)
gtk-murrine-engine (Fedora)
gtk2-engine-murrine (openSUSE)
gtk-engines-murrine (Gentoo)

How to install:

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory.
Then use Tweak-tool to select the GTK-theme.
LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take full effect !

Coming soon:

The smart ones may have noticed that their is no shell theme available.
Well that is my next project. So stay tuned...
In the main time, there is still the shell theme of my Gnome OSX-theme.

Comments

Please comment if you see things broken, or want differently. I will post fixes as soon as possible.

Updates:

-version 1.2: Corrected CSS-errors and added a version with more shadow beneath the windows.
-Version 1.1: Corrected theme parsing errors gxferr pointed out.

oh wait i found it, a suggest: when entering the "textbox" scheme all the edit window turns blue, thats really cool but insted of putting it all blue maybe you can just change the border of the textbox to bold and the bue can change it into cyan when highlighting the selected text, and the background maybe keep it white

suggest: I love the blue bar when loading something, but the edges are round, i think it should be rect and with less height, just a bit...

That's not themeable. The private-browser headerbar-background and titlebuttons are hardwired.

I'm getting a weird glitch on the nautilus sidebar when the mouse hovers over entries they get a strange pinkish highlight that sticks until I hover them again. Only seems to affect places and not bookmarks. Ubuntu Gnome 17.04, Gnome-shell 3.24.1

Weird issue... I'm running Ubuntu gnome 17.04. In fact it is developed in this. I've tested it on gnome versions up to 3.24 in fedora, manjaro, solus OS also. Never ran in that issue. Perhaps a graphics driver issue? Have you tried the NT-version? Do you have the same problem there?

Report

Yes, same thing. I use proprietary Nvidia drivers. Maybe that's it?

Hmmm--I'm getting the pinkish highlighting also--Debian Sid, Gnome 3.22.2 & nVidia driver 375.66. Nothing in logs-side bar is normal until you mouse over-initial highlight is correct, but is not returning to the base color afterwards.

Looks like we've found our culprit but I haven't had problems with any other themes. @paulxfce Gnome-OSX-II works so what's the difference?

Report

In order to see the problem will you please do the following (if you have the skills to work with CSS) :

In the gtk.CSS file (in the file gtk-3.0) you will find the following code:

filechooser placessidebar.sidebar,
.nautilus-window placessidebar.sidebar {

background-color: transparent;
background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom left,rgba(242,243,246,0.92),rgba(213,218,224,0.92),rgba(224,213,213,0.92));}

Now replace the above with the following code:

filechooser placessidebar.sidebar,
.nautilus-window placessidebar.sidebar {

background-color: rgba(242, 243, 246, 0.9);}

This is the same sidebar-color as in the original Gn-OSX.

Then save the file and restart the theme. See if this solves your problem?

Never mind the code, I've uploaded a special version of the theme for you. Still having the same issues?

I've uploaded a special version (with the old Gnome OSX-sidebar-color) . See if you still have the issues?

I'm using the Garuda Regular font but I don't see anything strange with the buttons. :-)

Report

Some fonts need allot of spaces, which makes the buttons larger or out of proportions. You can try out different fonts to your liking. But some will make the buttons to big.
